Mitchell Metal Products
Tool design through final assembly and finishing: progressive stamping, laser cutting, robotic welding, forming, fabrication, zinc plating and value-added assembly, with in-process inspection at every stage.
What started as one man and a single punch press is now two plants supplying manufacturers internationally.
Gordon and Arlette Mitchell started Mitchell Metal Products in 1954. Gordon struck out on his own with a single punch press, producing hardware for manufacturing projects, and added press capacity and forming capability over time to meet the need for high-quality metal products in the Central Wisconsin region.
Two years in, the business found its second life. Local wreath producers asked Gordon to make wire wreath rings for the Christmas supply industry, and in 1956 he did. Seventy years later, Mitchell is one of the largest producers of wire wreath rings in North America, and the same plant still stamps hardware for manufacturers.
For over 70 years, Mitchell Metal Products has been manufacturing custom metal components and specialty wreath rings. Two trusted lines, one locally-owned shop that sees every project through from start to finish.

In 2008 the Mitchell family sold the business to a local investment group led by Timothy Zimmerman, and since 2020 Zimmerman has held sole controlling interest. The company stayed in Merrill, and much of the leadership came from inside it: Zimmerman and fellow buyer Daniel Frick were both long-tenured members of the Mitchell management team before the purchase.

Mitchell helped a self-checkout manufacturer resolve a finish issue that was causing optical reader problems in the field. The solution improved plating consistency, reduced visible weld marks, and lowered production costs.
A mainframe computer manufacturer needed better protection for hidden hinge surfaces exposed to humidity. Mitchell developed a layered finish system to help prevent corrosion and improve long-term performance.
For the window and door industry, Mitchell manufactures a 100% stainless steel flush bolt assembly that requires multiple specialized processes. The part requires specialized forming, punching, riveting, and stainless steel production expertise.
A safety gate manufacturer needed a reliable, cost-competitive U.S. source for custom metal hardware. Mitchell developed the components needed to support its new wooden gate line, helping the company bring a domestically manufactured product to market.
An institutional furniture manufacturer needed a cost-effective source for a close-tolerance fabricated subassembly. Mitchell combined multiple manufacturing processes with robotic welding and quick-change fixturing to produce finished parts and deliver them directly to the customer’s work center.
A rugged lighting manufacturer needed a competitive bracket solution for plants in the U.S. and Europe. Mitchell engineered a custom resistance-welding work center to automate assembly and provide a reliable supply of finished brackets across both markets.
