Full-Service Custom Metal Manufacturing
Progressive stamping, forming, welding, and value-added assembly under one roof for OEM and industrial customers.
A Complete Approach to Metal Manufacturing
From tooling and stamping to welding, assembly, and finishing, Mitchell offers a wide range of manufacturing capabilities in one facility. Our team works with you to build the right production process for your part, whether you need one operation or support from development through completion.
Standard Products
Every Process Under One Roof
From tool design through finished, plated parts, Mitchell Metal Products manages your complete production run in Merrill, Wisconsin.
Progressive Metal Stamping
Mitchell Metal Products runs progressive stamping lines from 2.5 to 400 tons, matched to custom tooling built in our own tool room. We work in mild steel, stainless, brass, aluminum, and copper alloys, in gauges from 0.015 inch stainless up to 0.312 inch mild steel. Tonnage monitors and in-die sensors catch problems before they reach your parts, so every run holds to the same standard from the first piece to the last.
Metal Forming & Press Brake
Our metal forming department handles the secondary work that stamping alone can't: press brake forming, punch press forming, tube bending, and tapping. Work centers are laid out to move parts straight from stamping into forming and assembly cells, and our deburring lines meet UL-1439 sharpness standards, a requirement we're well known for in the juvenile furniture industry.
Robotic & Resistance Welding
A CNC-controlled robotic welding cell handles complex, multi-set-up welds in a single pass, fast and spatter-free. Alongside it, one of the Midwest's largest resistance spot welding operations feeds nuts and studs automatically onto stamped parts. We also weld stainless steel and aluminum, including controlled-atmosphere and silver solder brazing work, using fixtures our own tool and die team builds for repeatable, tight-tolerance results.
Value-Added Assembly
Our assembly department builds precision subassemblies to your exact specification, using custom resistance welding cells, robotic welders, riveters, and fastener-inserting machines our own engineers design and build. Punch presses and robotic welding stations are grouped into single-piece work cells, so parts move from stamping straight through assembly with minimal handling. Major OEMs ship our subassemblies straight to the work site with no added inspection.
Tool Design & Production
Every stamping job starts with tooling, and Mitchell Metal Products designs and builds its own. Our tool room handles everything from simple blanking dies to complex multi-station progressive tools, including our proprietary MMP-iTool insert system, which turns standard tool blocks into finished tooling in a fraction of the time hard tooling takes. That makes small-lot runs, from 1,000 parts to 100,000, cost-effective to bring to market.
Laser Cutting & Processing
A 6kW Swiss-built fiber laser blanking line, added in 2022, pairs laser precision with seven decades of metal forming know-how. We cut carbon steel and aluminum up to 0.750 inch thick, and copper and brass up to 0.370 inch thick, with the laser programmable to blank and etch in the same pass. Quotes can combine simple laser blanking with forming, welding, and assembly, all under one roof.
Fabrication
We fabricate everything from cold-rolled sheet to hot-rolled structural steel, stainless plate, and aluminum tubing, using automated saws, expert iron workers, and custom-built bending machines. PC-controlled cut-off saws handle ganged and bundled tubing to length, and our hydraulic and pneumatic forming equipment bends heavy-gauge steel (5/16 inch and heavier) into custom brackets and channels to your specification.
Custom Product Development
Our CAD design team works directly with your engineers from concept through production, matching part function and customer requirements to the right manufacturing process. We bring engineering, tooling, and production together as a single project team on complex forming challenges, turning custom tooling design into high-quality subassemblies and efficient, repeatable manufacturing processes.
Zinc Plating & Finishing
Our in-house zinc chromate plating lines finish parts in clear, yellow, or black zinc, all RoHS-compliant, right alongside our stamping, welding, and assembly operations. Nano-tech top coats add extra corrosion and abrasion resistance where salt spray performance matters, and a large baking oven lets us plate heat-treated, high-carbon parts without the risk of hydrogen embrittlement.
Rapid Fulfillment Program
Our Rapid Stock Order Fulfillment Program runs as a vendor-managed Kanban system: we hold your stampings, formed parts, and subassemblies in stock and release them daily, weekly, or biweekly, on your schedule. Pulls from our inventory signal our floor directly, so production adjusts automatically to your usage instead of running on a fixed lead time.
